The 25th edition of Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week 2026 officially commenced on Tuesday, 7 July 2026, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, regulators, investors, technology providers and energy professionals from across Africa and beyond to deliberate on the future of the continent's energy landscape.

One of the major highlights of the opening day was the Nigerian Content Strategic Panel Session titled "Building Africa's Local Content Alliances – Progress, Gaps, and Opportunities," which explored collaborative pathways for strengthening local content implementation and accelerating industrial growth across Africa's energy sector.

The session was expertly moderated by Hadassah Hussaini, Diplomatic Relations Advisor at NNPC Limited, who steered insightful discussions on the importance of regional partnerships, policy alignment and cross-border collaboration in advancing sustainable local content development throughout the continent.

The distinguished panel featured leading stakeholders representing the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), the African Local Content Association, and the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy of Namibia.

Discussions centred on practical strategies for harmonising local content frameworks among African nations to improve competitiveness, strengthen indigenous companies, deepen technical capacity, encourage technology transfer and maximise value retention across the energy value chain.

Panelists acknowledged the significant progress achieved by several African countries in implementing local content policies while identifying existing gaps that require stronger regional cooperation, policy consistency, investment in human capital, financing mechanisms and institutional partnerships.

Moderating the session, Hadassah Hussaini emphasised the importance of building enduring alliances capable of transforming Africa's abundant natural resources into sustainable economic prosperity through increased local participation and shared expertise.

Her leadership throughout the session reflected NNPC Limited's commitment to promoting regional cooperation, supporting indigenous capacity development and fostering strategic partnerships that enhance Africa's position within the global energy industry.

The opening day's discussions reinforced NOG Energy Week's role as one of Africa's foremost energy platforms, providing a unique opportunity for governments, national oil companies, regulators and private sector leaders to exchange ideas, shape policy directions and develop practical solutions that will drive the continent's energy future.

As NOG Energy Week 2026 continues throughout the week in Abuja, participants are expected to engage in a series of strategic conferences, technical sessions, exhibitions and business meetings focused on innovation, energy security, sustainability, investment and the evolving energy transitions.
