President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Tuesday for Lagos, where he is scheduled to spend approximately two weeks attending to official duties and celebrating the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir festival.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who emphasized that the President’s visit will combine high-level engagements with the observance of the Islamic holiday.

A major highlight of his stay will be the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which was officially flagged off last month in Accra, Ghana.

In Lagos, activities marking the golden jubilee of ECOWAS will include a symbolic reenactment of the 1975 declaration at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island.

President Tinubu, who is the current Chairman of ECOWAS, will also deliver a keynote address at a commemorative event scheduled for Eko Hotels and Suites, where he will reflect on the bloc’s milestones over the past five decades.

Professor Bolaji Akinyemi, former Minister of External Affairs and Chairman of NIIA, will lead a review of ECOWAS’ 50-year journey, followed by expert panel discussions.

Retired General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria’s former Head of State and the only surviving signatory to the original ECOWAS declaration, will attend the ceremonies and deliver a special address. The President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray, will also give a welcome address.

As part of his Lagos itinerary, President Tinubu will on Saturday, May 31, commission several major infrastructure projects.

These include Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, and the flag-off of Section II of the Coastal Highway, as well as the 7th Axial Road.

He will also virtually inaugurate the Kano-Kwanar-Danja-Hadejia Section II Road, the Yakasai-Zalli Road, and flag off projects such as the Kano Northern Bypass, Zaria-Hunkuyi-Dabai Section I, Dabai-Kafur-Malumfashi, and Malumfashi-Dayi-Yashe-Gidan Mutum Daya Section III.

The President will observe the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the State House Mosque, Dodan Barracks, before returning to Abuja to continue with national duties.
