REFLECTION FROM INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIVE PANEL ON ALLEGED CORROPTION, ABUSE OF POWER, TORTURE….
DAY 5, 6 & 7

The investigate Panel on alleged Corruption, Abuse of Power, Torture, Cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment against the Nigerian Correctional Services was held on Monday 7th March, 2025. At Aso Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel (former Sharaton Hotel) 


The opening remarks was made by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the chairperson of the investigative penal with brief overview of the panels work and purpose on the session by Uju Agomoh, PhD, who was the panel secretary on other violation against the Nigeria Correctional Services on the theme “Consultation with Civil Society Organizations and the Investigative Penal on Alleged Corruption and other violation”.



Day 6 of Public Hearing same venue was on the theme, “Consultation with Law Enforcement Agencies, Judiciary and Treatment of Complaints”. After self introduction, paper presentation from the Ministry of Justice and Law Enforcement Agencies this was between 11:00 – 11:25, health break was taken, and the treatment of complaints staff was up at 2:30pm for interactive session/comments and recommendations while the secretariat debriefed by 4:00 pm.



Day 7 of the Public Hearing same venue still focused to address complaint with opening remarks by the chairperson of the panel Dr. Magdalene Ajani on the continuation of presentation from Justice, Law Enforcement Agencies, Nigeria Police Force, NDLEA, Women Auxiliary and Nigeria Legion.


The media briefing and summary by Uju Agomoh, the panel secretary on the alledge corruption and other violation against the Nigerian Correctional Service debriefed by 4pm on Tuesday March 11, 2025.        


High Points of day 8: Thematic focus on infrastructure, supplies, Architectural Design, Feeding of Inmates and the Nigerian Correctional Service, Agricultural Programmes, Correctional Farm centres, spotlighted issues of complaints on Nigerian Incentive Based-Risk-Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) GESCAN solutions, National Agencies for Engineering Infrastructure, small and Medium Scale Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria(SMEDAN) etc.


The penal, focused on the issues of feeding of inmates, farm, quality and quantity of food and that proper steps be taken to substantially improve feeding of inmates with a call for extra-budgetary food-funding for inmates and those in custody, also, profits and benefits for staff welfare and retirement benefits was looked at, they also recommended that contributions and pension arrangement should be voluntary and that State Government should be involved in the feeding and care of inmates in their states, they also recommended the Malawi Experience on farm and creativity.
Finally, the penal oversight function looked at improved allocation of food among others.
