The hospital which started operation, principally for the women and children was established 25 years ago by the inspirational drive and initiative of his mum, the former first lady of the country, Hajiya Maryam Abacha but with the passage of time has grown to provide comprehensive treatments for all gender and ages.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Mohammed Raji was the first to hint on the danger signal facing the hospital and the entire health sector in the country when he posited that the hospital's workforce has gradually reduced to about 2,500.
He however maintained that despite the seeming challenges, that the hospital's management has established a collaborative partnership with the Nigerian medical professionals working abroad as to be returning home on demand on rotational basis.
This form of collaboration, according to the hospital CMD has greatly improved the health care services rendered by the hospital.
However, the first lady, Oluremi Tinibu, while delivering her speech at the occassion reassured Nigerians of the federal government commitment towards rebuilding the healthcare systems in the country and ensuring that they benefit from it notwithstanding where they came from.
