This year's 6th International Annual Conference on human trafficking and gender-based violence ended recently in Abuja, with a call for more synergy and robust collaboration against such issues of human trafficking and gender-based violence in the country.
The collaborative partnership is been canvassed from amongst both the state and non-state actors in the country.
Hosted by Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation, one of the premier Civil Society Organizations in the country, the event brought together various stakeholders and development partners with the aim to foster active relationships and collaboration where they brainstormed and articulated valued ideas on the way forward at eradicating the cankerworm of the dreaded human trafficking and gender-based violence in the society.
While interfacing with some journalists at the event, the National Director of the Regy and Henry Amazing Grace Foundation, Dr Regina Duru harped on the imperative need for more collaborative actions with both the government and the media with the mindset of creating more awareness on the dangers associated with the nefarious act of human trafficking and gender-based violence.
The media, according to Dr Duru should play more active role in creating awareness on the social abuse of human trafficking and gender-based violence, as in her own words "there is need for the press to amplify the danger loud".
The awareness and sensitization crusade, she further said should be taken far and right into the slum areas where the preponderance of such incidences often do occur.
She further recounted the unweavring commitment, resilience and dedication which the organization has demonstrated over the years, overcoming daunting challenges and remaining steadfast in waging the war against HTGV in the country since coming on board.
The event attracted other like-minded crusaders in the fight against such despicable behavioral attitude, HTGV, which includes Hon Dr Asabe Bashir, Director General of Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Abuja and Mr Abdulganiyu Abubakar, the National President, Network Against Trafficking, Abuse and Labour, NACTAL.
Others also included Her Excellency Amb Victoria Adenike Adelana, the Queen of Sheba and Mrs Afolashade Abioye who is the Executive Director of Gemus Skills Empowerment Initiative, Abuja. Many of the survivors as well as beneficiaries from the organization were equally present.
For Dr Asabe Bashir, the event was not only appt but timely especially coming at a time the present regime of President Bola Ahmed Tinibu is doubling his effort at curbing the ugly trend in the country.
She however stressed the need for the event to be made a regular one until the dastardly act is brought to a halt.
In addition, she used the opportunity to call on victims, especially the womenfolk to always speak out whenever they are been abused as according to her that is only the time they can be rescued.
Also lending her own voice was Amb Victoria Adenike Adelana who harped very strongly on the need for the government to support the women in the country by creating better work places for them.
The conference which is the sixth in a series since inception has as its theme "A violation of women rights".
