President Tinubu the Chairman of ECOWAS commission, is set to declare open the Economic Community of West African States Food and Cultural Festival in its forthcoming festival holding in Nigeria aimed at promoting food security, poverty alleviation and zero tolerance for hunger in ECOWAS countries.
The Director-General, Ambassador Felix Ihonre said this at the Preparatory Inter-Ministerial/Stakeholders Meeting on ECOWAS Food and Cultural Festival in Abuja Thursday.
Director-General, Ambassador Felix Ihonre speaking with Hypenews Reports Abuja said this at the Preparatory Inter-Ministerial/Stakeholders Meeting on ECOWAS Food and Cultural Festival is scheduled to be held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State from 6th - 11th October 2024.
"Ihonre emphasized that the festival would bring together key players in the food security and security structure to proffer solutions to security challenges that hindered farming and agricultural production in Nigeria and other West African region,'
Pointing further, Nigeria being the host of the festival would stand to gain a lot of economic benefits, boost production and increase sells, in area of accommodations, transportation, hotels will be busy and airports will be busy and then all economic activities will be busy during this food and cultural festival,'

“The DG, said the commission will be glad to be welcoming all the delegates from 15 member-countries of ECOWAS, delegates from around the world, heads of states and governments officials to Uyo Akwa Ibom State and Calabar Cross River State.
"Other activities such as golf tournament, train carnival, Miss ECOWAS Beauty Pageant, flow train carnival and men and youth forum and forum of local government chairmen, have been outlined for the festival, Ihonr stressed,'
“We will be having the Miss ECOWAS Beauty Pageant which is going to showcase ECOWAS beauty as well as their costumes. So, a lot of activities will take place in Uyo and there will be a lot of food and cuisines.”
"He mentioned, the theme of the upcoming ECOWAS Food and Cultural Festive titled “Celebrating African Cultural Heritage for Peace and Development” was apt because there could be no development in an atmosphere of rancour and conflict.
“Other arrangements, the director - general announced the security network of the security agencies like police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps will be there to ensure the successful hosting of the food and cultural festival in Nigeria.
In their remarks the representatives of the Office of the Secretary General of the Federation (OSGF) Ekpa O. Francis, Presidential Amesty Office, Juan A.Governor, Ministry of Police Affairs, James Gofwanu, Commandant Agro Rangers, Commandant Idris Jibrin, UN and other representatives gave their commitments to the successful hosting of the Ecowas Food and Cultural Festival in Nigeria.
