In recognising the importance of empowering youths, the Network of Youth for Sustainable Initiative (NGYouthSDGs) is set to hosts Nigerian youths. Has organized the 2024 International Youth Day in partnership with OXFAM in Nigeria, with the theme: " From Awareness to Action: Empowering Youths in Nigeria for the SDGs",
Taking place at Royal Choice Inn, Beside CBN, Abuja, Nigeria .12th-13th August 2024
In a statement by Aliyu Yusuf, Communications Manager, NGYouthSDGs said, "This event will highlightthe
crucial role young people play in advancing sustainable development and addressing national challenges.
"Since2019, NGYouthSDGs has commemorated International Youth Day by empowering young people to
advocate for urgent action on education, employment, climate action, sexual and reproductive health, clean
water and sanitation,and gender equality, Yusuf said".
Yusuf added , In 2021, NGYouthSDGs collaborated with Oxfam to further amplify
the voices of young people by recognising young Nigerians for their contributions toward advancing the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Further more he noted that the NGYouthSDGs2024 International Youth Day is especially significant as it aims to drive momentum towards achieving the SDGs by recognising and amplifying the efforts of youth who are making tangible impacts in their communities.
"Yusuf however stressed, that the event will feature panel discussions and sessions featuring an intergenerational dialogue with representatives from youth, government, civil society, and the
private sector. Key topics will incude education, employment, climate action, and gender equality, with a focus
on improving progress towards the SDGs and addressing the need for continued commitment and innovative
solutions".
"He pointed out that this year’s event will also recognise ten outstanding young individuals for their achievements in advancing the SDGs and honour five for their efforts towards a greener Nigeria from the Oxfam annual #GreenChallenge
competition".
"Participants will have the chance to engage with change makers, policy makers, and peers to
exchange ideas, share best practices, and develop collaborative solutions.
“Oxfam in Nigeria and NGYouthSDGs are dedicated to empowering youth and fostering sustainable
development, Yusuf said.
