Principals of Nigerian Schools Sets Education Standard

The All-Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS)  ends it 5-Day Congress on 27th June 2024 in Abuja Nigeria, which has its Theme: "Developing Entrepreneurship Education For Secondary Schools in Nigeria".



The All-Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) President Muhammad Ibn Musa, while speaking to Newsmen where Hypenews Reports monitored, pointed out  the following observations by the congress:



He said, despite the crucial role of entrepreneurship education in developing knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors necessary for recognizing opportunities, generating innovative ideas and effectively identifying societal needs, there remains a notable gap that entrepreneurship education is missing in Secondary Schools curriculum.


"Musa, added that School Administrator in Secondary Schools in Nigeria are confronted with significant challenges in addressing security issues within their institutions and the challenges includes Combating kidnapping, corruption, deprivation, inequality and systemic failure in governance"


"He made mention of limited number of formal job opportunities, inadequate infrastructure and a mismatched between skills acquired in formal education and industry, constitutes , to a large extent, unemployment rate of 42.4% and the inability of some Secondary Schools Administrators to identify entrepreneurship as a key driver of job creation and economic growth by fostering entrepreneurial mindset is no doubt one reason that students do not have a positive mindset to start their own businesses and contribute to the economic to address youth unemployment",





He stressed, that congress  noted that the failure of school Principals to involve the community members of school PTA and School Based Management Committee (SBMCs) through routine meetings, events, workshop and Projects that highlight the importance of entrepreneurial skills is a major constraint to students becoming future job creators.



Furthermore, he said lack of digital Literacy skills of some school Administrators places them at a disadvantaged to harness use of technology to address diverse teaching-learning and administrative needs, the lack of power, lack of communication network and Internet services, especially in rural areas miliate against teaching-learning experience aimed at preparing students for success in the increasingly competitive and globalized workforce that lays emphasis on use of technology.  



The All-Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) President Muhammad Ibn Musa,
highlighted some recommendations of the congress: 



- The need of urgent measures taken by relevant stakeholders to integrate comprehensive entrepreneurship education into the Secondary School curriculum across Nigeria to equip students with the necessary competencies to thrive as future entrepreneurs and contribute meaningfully to national economic growth.




- A collaborative approach involving various stakeholders including government agencies such as EFCC, ICPC, Security Agencies and Community Based Organization (CBOs) backed by legislation be established to address security challenges.

- Principals who are key drivers of the implementation of entrepreneurship education should be adequately trained on global best practices, so as to foster the department of entrepreneurship ecosystem in our schools and as well as contributes to economic growth.


- Relevant stakeholders should implement entrepreneurship education curriculum in line with societal needs by involving industry experts and successful entrepreneurs in practical mentorship of young entrepreneurs in our schools, who will become future job providers.


- Congress urge Government at all levels and other relevant stakeholders to provide all necessary capacity building programmes for School Mangers, Teachers, Students and indeed parents in line with digital literacy that will guarantee digital citizenship. 


Finally, Musa added, Congress wants government and other stakeholders such as network providers to ensure improved availability of electricity, steady Internet connectivity and communication network services, to facilitate the actualization of digital literacy in all secondary schools in Nigeria.



The President The All-Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) FCT Abuja Nigeria, Dr. Bello Adam Gupta, while speaking to Newsmen Hypenews Reports, stressed, the need of the entrepreneurship education in secondary schools, knowing that this will be the key to economic growth in the country, while calling on all stakeholders especially the government at all levels, agencies and parents to look at ways to implementating the communique of the Congress.
