... French government committed to financial support in Combating Climate Change in Africa - Jean Francois

In commemoration of the WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2024, The French Embassy in Nigeria and institute of French in Nigeria as part of it's World Environment Day activities. Organized a breakfast debate on 5th June 2024, at the French institute in Abuja Nigeria.
The World Environment Day had its Theme: Combating Climate Change and Climate Resilience, are we facing a generational conflict?
In his opening speech the Charge d' Affaires French Embassy, Jean Francois Hasperue, said the event was organized to gather more vibrant ideas and forstering dialogue in Combating Climate Change Resilience.
"He said the climate change is here and it's affecting us all globally, especially in Nigeria as the top ten countries been affected by climate not resilient enough against it.
"He however, noted , the French government is taking a bold steps in pushing for the most economically developed countries to finance the climate change all over the world especially in Africa, with contributions of over one hundred billion euros.
"He added, the French government is providing six billion euros. Calling on all Africans for this partnership and intergenerational experts to dialogue and build bridges across divides, making Africa voices heard in finding solutions to climate change.
"To change the generational gap of the young and the old, older generations contributing significantly to climate change, sharing great concerns that has been affecting climate change.
"To this regard, the robust panel of discussants and experts was on the debate which includes the young environmental leaders across Nigeria. Both generations are involved in climate action different capacities.
"High level of participation, in climate act differ amongst generation due to experience was formed, to equipping ourselves with knowledge to build cutting -edge culture which can help to enhance intergenerational in climate change resilience.
Speaking with Hypenews reporters, a special guest, at debate Brigadier General Adewale Adekoya, said we as citizens need to take care of our environment in area of advocacy, trees planting and turning waste to energy.
"He however noted, the government has made very good policies and direction of what we should be doing to our environments. This policies should be broken down, so the people can assess this information, as this will help to build the society in bridging the intergenerational gap in continues cultural learning and actions that are needful in solving our environmental problems.
The moderator of the panel , Aliyu Umar Sadiq, Environment and Development Professional with specific interest in climate change circular economy and sustainability, While speaking with Newsmen Hypenews reporters, called on all participants to engage both the young and old generation to continue to take climate actions irrespective of age and experiences, as it affects us all.
"Umar said, there are crises affecting"livelihood " due to climate change such as short rain falls, water scarcity and insecurities. He then pointed out ways to climate change restoration and resillience. Which are land restoration, water reservation and trees planting.
On the panel of discussants are environmental experts, Effion Nyeh CEO/Co-founder Ekondo, Lucky Abeng Environment and Climate Justic Campaigner, Rita Idehai Social Innovator and Williams Ngwakwe Geologist and Environmentalist.
In her closing address, Mrs Kelly Regis, Cooperation Attache Embassy of France in Nigeria, appreciated all participants, NGO and all guest for celebrating the #World Environment Day 2024. With French Embassy in Nigeria.
