...as this will foster economic stability 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, says his administration’s cordial relationship with the National Assembly has helped in fostering good governance in Nigeria.

"The President stated this in Abuja at a two day Retreat for the members of House of Representatives.

The Retreat with the Theme for the Retreat is Navigating Change: Legislative Strategies for Economic Transformation” 
 

On 30th April & 1st May 2024/ Abuja Continental Hotel .
The House has made deliberate decision to focus on Tax reforms and modernisation as well as review of the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act.


The  Tinubu administration since it assumption in office, has enjoyed harmonious working relationship with  the legislative Arm.

"Which has resulted to quick passage of Bills that will make the administration achieve its Renewed Hope Agenda.

"The  house of Representative Retreat has therefore dedicated their attention to identify concrete Legislative Strategies for Economic transformation of the government

The President was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, stated that the legislature must play its role if the administration must achieve the ambitious goals of national transformation .


The Speaker House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, who pledged the 10th Assembly commitment to support President Tinubu’s Economic Reforms, said there was the need to diversify the nation’s economy to stabilize its revenue base.

Also speaking at the Retreat the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Benjamin Kalu said the Parliament will develop clear Roadmap to its role in the implementation of Petroleum Industry Act.

"Mr. Kalu emphasized that the reforms in Oil and Gas Sector has the potential to unlock vast economic opportunities towards more prosperous and sustainable future of the country.


Further more, at the Technical Session, which was chaired by the former Speaker of the House of Representative, 13th Speaker of the House of Representative, 
RT. Hon. Yakubu Dogars, CFR,  On Tax Reform in Nigeria and the Legislature.



"It was a rebost session, looking at the Tax structure and areas of Reforms, the Technical Session also seek to address the Informal Economy through Legislative Initiatives, by Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Economic Development. 


Legislating support systems in Ease-of-Doing Business, Digital Economy and also strengthening Anti-Corruption Measures in Public Financial Management. 



The Chairman, Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms,  Mr. Taiwo Oyeyele,
 Highlighted, some of the  Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, for Economic Growth and stability, in his presentation at the Technical Session. 


He mada a submission in seven areas..

*** Areas of Legislative Intervention.

Mr. Taiwo,  said fiscal Governance - issues regarding public financial management and government spending priorities, debt management and economic policy coordination should be our focus.

"As promoting Ease-of-Doing Business will address impediments to trade he noted.


On National Interest, he made a passionate appeal to all Members and Participated regardless of affiliation or political interests first and above other consideration. 


He further stated, to Members and Participates to facilitate inclusive growth, as there is need to remove tax and fiscal buttenecks and disincentives, as this will promote investment and facilitate economic and sustainable way to grow and diversify government revenue..


In closing his presentation, he argued all stakeholders to have partnership and co-creation to widely with the public and key private sector, public institutions, the media, civil society, International organisations and the Nigerian people, home and abroad.

The Technical Session is continuing on the 1st May 2024.
