The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) with other partners has set a robust team seeking human security assessment across its member states, as Nigeria is set to be the first to test run this assessment.



The European Union and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the co-founders have  initiatied the process which aims to gain a deeper understanding of security dynamics and resilience structures that support human security in the ECOWAS region.



The Director of the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Response in Nigeria, Chris Ngwodo, speaking in Abuja Nigeria on Monday, 27th May 2024. Explains about the meeting being an inception dialogue marking the commencement of the human security assessments.



"He however, clarified that the study would map human security vulnerabilities and resilience factors within Nigeria.



This initiative is a previous human security vulnerability assessment conducted in 2018, which has proven valuable in establishing early warning systems across West Africa, most especially in Nigeria.



Ngwodo explained, “It is a study that is being undertaken across West Africa, but Nigeria is the first country to undertake it.


“It is aimed at mapping human security vulnerability and resilience factors within our country.


“Seek to make achievement in understanding of the complex issues that underline conflicts and instability within Nigeria.


“He pointed out the plans made  to map the resilience factors that can help us to become better in combating those issues that engender conflicts and strive and above all, as efforts are on to get empirical data that can be used to reform policy interventions by the government.



This process are all efforts to visit conflict hot spots and areas of resilience to understand the factors contributing to their stability.


“With this investigation, useful gains has been made  to establish early warning signs as it affects the region. "Dr Ngwodo,  however, added that this is a continuation inquiry, that will aid in finding solutions."
 


In fostering and strengthening human security and resilience in Nigeria and West African region, this will be a significant assessments.
