..Urges Employers to Demonstrate Love to Workers as Part of Celebration.

Emmanuel Oduara

Director General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps,Rt.Hon.(Dr.) Yusuf Buba Yakub,

"Has called on employers of labour and leaders across the country to use the occasion of the International Labour Day to demonstrate love for Nigerian workers as a special appreciation for the continuous efforts and commitment they make to ensure that our world goes round.

"The former federal lawmaker, who stated the above in a goodwill message to Nigerian workers released to the press,Monday,in Abuja,

Admonished all to ensure that we exemplify our appreciation for the sacrifice workers daily make by offering something tangible to them on May Day.The message reads:

"On the 1st of May every year, the entire world recognizes the central role workers play in harnessing the productive capacities available to different workforces across endeavours ,countries and peoples to ensure that the global economy is sustained and that the place of man as the centrepiece of global activities is preserved.

"On the 1st of May every year,we choose to pulse for a day to honour those "whose hands fertilise the earth",whose brains birth grand ideas that  rule our world and whose efforts power the wheels of daily living and activities across countries ,homes, professions and the like.

"This year's 1st of May is no different from the others gone by.It is, however, another opportunity to celebrate our workers,to wish them well,to show that we care and to give them a soothing pat on the back for the days they stay out when others are home, for the times they lose sleep when others are in bed and for the efforts they daily make to ensure that the machine of daily life and living does not grind to a sudden halt!

"Today offers us the rare opportunity to bring to the front burner issues concerning our workers, their welfare and their general well-being.

"As we join other parts of the world to celebrate May Day as a nation, the celebration offers us the opportunity to,in all honesty, review issues concerning the Nigerian worker and appreciate the sacrifice and commitment he makes to national progress and development.

"This year's appreciation, for me, must come in concrete terms. We must find a special way in all our little corners of the world to demonstrate this appreciation in more tangible ways than mere words can merely convey to all those, including leaders, who daily toil to make society better and to elongate the future of mankind and his environment."Consequent upon the above ,

I urge our employers, leaders, factory owners and every Chief Executive Officer in offices of any worth to elect a special way to, on the occasion of this year's May Day, demonstrate our appreciation to every worker under our care.

I call on those who do not have the gift of a home to spare some morsels of bread, pieces of clothing, shoes or even biros." The intention is to,by these tangible acts of love and care, show that we appreciate those who daily give everything of themselves to ensure that our world goes round and gets better by the day. These are the sewage cleaners, the firefighters, the haulage drivers as well as the factory workers, among many others, including some of our leaders, who daily sit long hours in offices, engrossed in activities that are aimed at oiling the machinery of corporate governance and leadership.

"For myself,my dear family and on behalf of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC),which by the grace of God and the kind and gracious trust of His Excellency, our dear President and Leader, as currently the head,

I wish to congratulate our leaders and the Nigerian workers on the occasion of this year's Workers' Day celebration."Long live our LeadersLong live Nigerian WorkersLong live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!,"the message concludes.

The International Labour Day, observed every Ist of May each year, is a globally recognized day set aside by the United Nations in recognition of the roles workers play in society.Nigeria is signatory to the ILO convention on labour matters.
